About Year 2 Maths and the teaching plan

The national Year 2 reference includes numbers to at least 1,000; flexible place-value renaming; additive and multiplicative modelling; halves, quarters and eighths; additive patterns; addition facts within 20 and twos facts; informal measurement; quarter-hour clock reading; directions and categorical data. A separate Probability strand is still absent. Illustrative anchors: AC9M2N02, AC9M2N03, AC9M2A03, AC9M2M04, AC9M2SP01 and AC9M2ST02. Entry check: revisit Year 1 number structure, equal sharing and explaining a diagram. Programme destination: flexible two-digit calculation, meaningful multiplicative models and increasingly organised reasoning. Larger-number recognition should not outrun understanding of tens and hundreds.
